Who are mission-minded people?

How do they see the world? While they could be found in your church, place of work, or coaching Little League, what do mission-minded people do differently?

International Mission Board missionaries from around the world helped compile a list of 13 things that make up a mission-minded person:

1. They want to meet someone who does not follow Jesus Christ. Mission-minded people follow Jesus’ plan in Luke 10 to go work “His harvest.” They actively seek out non-believers for conversations and friendship.

2. They continually look for creative ways to share the Gospel. Mission-minded people find intentional ways to share so that people understand. It is not a “canned presentation” but relative to that person/group. They do the abnormal, irrational, counter-intuitive, and take risks all in an effort to share Christ.

3. They have a different worldview. They think more about the world, culture and languages than they do about the tiny place where they live. They understand that the Gospel is not just for them but for all people. They are committed to getting it to the rest of the world.

4. They hear the voice of God and are obedient. Mission-minded people hear the voice of God and obey when He tells them to go across the street, to another town, state or country to share about His redeeming love.

5. They pray a lot! Praying is a direct link to God. They believe that God will do greater things than we can ever imagine. They pray for it to happen.

6. They make disciples. They constantly ask themselves if what they are doing will result in disciples. If the strategy is only for people to hear, then the Gospel will not spread. Mission-minded people know the importance of discipleship.

Why do we serve in India?

Lack of Gospel access

Millions of people in India are unreached by the Gospel—they’re not just lost; they have no idea who Jesus is. India has more unreached people groups than any other country in the world.

Persecuted Christians

Christians in India are few and far between, but those who do follow Jesus are at great risk. In fact, Open Doors ranks India as the 11th most dangerous country for believers (2023). Our brothers and sisters need support!

Missed Education

1 in 4 adults in India is considered illiterate. It’s not just lessons on reading and writing that they’ve missed—without an education, these adults have never learned the importance of maintaining good hygiene, saving money, or feeding their children nutritious food.

Devastating Poverty

130 million people in India live on less than $2.15 of income per day. In desperation, families miss meals and even pull their children out of school to send them to work.

Unreached People Groups

In missions, an unreached people group is generally defined as a group without a church that is making new disciples. Hence, outside help is needed.Today, there are more than 7 billion people on earth who are spread over 16,600 people groups, of which 6,700 groups are unreached. That is 3 billion unreached people or 40% of the world's population. Unreached does not mean that each individual within that people group has never heard of Jesus. In some of these groups there is a small percentage of believers. However the vast majority have never heard of Jesus. Most of the people in the 6,700 unreached people groups are have not yet heard the gospel.

Missions research indicates that more than 3,000 ethnic groups not only are unreached, but also have no missionary activity among them. Even after 2,000 years: no believer, no church, no bible, zero missionaries.
Of course it is possible that the Lord is working supernaturally, but that is not the common way which He has ordained for the spreading of the gospel. He ordered the church, His followers, to go.

How far we've come!

Each red dot in the maps below represents a community that is less than 2% Christian, with no active church planting activity. As you can see, many communities still need to be reached, but in just a handful of years, we’ve come a long way!

Global Map here

Kenya is 80% Christian but lacks the trained Pastors to reach into the 10/40 regions.

The 10/40 Window is a rectangular area of North Africa, the Middle East and Asia between 10 degrees north and 40 degrees north latitude. This area is often called “The Resistant Belt” and includes the majority of the world's Muslims, Hindus, and Buddhists. Two-thirds of the world's population — 4 billion people — live in the 10/40 Window.

We have personal contact with dozens of Pastors and organizations in Kenya. It's a great place to go to learn what it means to be a missionary because it's safer and will teach you more than you will teach them! There are many short term projects that are needed and I (Pastor Steve Bell) can help you to hook up with the right people or even go with you, as the Lord leads.
